INSTRUCTIONAL SUPPORT: ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

As a private, online school, we provide a personalized educational experience for every one of our students. We believe that every student is unique and has their own learning style, and that is why we offer instructional support that is personalized to help our students succeed. Instructional support at the elementary level primarily falls to the student's Personalized Education Coach (PEC), who is also the instructor for all students' core subjects and most electives. If students opt to take a foreign language, they will have a separate instructor for that language.

PECs

PECs are dedicated professionals who work one-on-one with each student to create a Personalized Education Plan (PEP) that meets student’s specific needs and goals. PECs fulfill two roles with our elementary students. They act as both a mentor/advisor and a teacher.

As mentor/advisor, PECs work closely with the student and their family to understand their learning style, strengths, and challenges, and then create a plan that helps the student achieve their academic goals. They help students with organizational skills, time management, and course planning.

As a teacher, PECs guide students through subject-specific lessons and assignments. PECs reinforce, supplement, and expand the asynchronous curriculum. They grade assignments and provide feedback that is targeted to their students specific learning needs. Feedback on assignments is an important teaching tool.

PEC support does not end at the student. Parent involvement is important for all students’ success, but especially at the elementary level. PECs provide guidance and support to parents as well. In many ways, the PEC and parents become co-educators for CMASAS elementary students.

PECs work with students and parents to personalize courses when necessary. The personalization process looks different for every student. PECs focus on the best way to give students access to the skills and concepts in the lesson so students in turn can show their PEC what they know about those skills and concepts.

PECs meet with students one-on-one at least once a week. Parents are typically involved in this meeting at the elementary level. They also provide a live homeroom for all their PEC students. Homeroom is a place for students to spend time socializing with one another. Homeroom activities often include games, fun activities or lessons, and school announcements.

Our online school offers a flexible learning environment that allows students to learn at their own pace and on their own schedule. With our dedicated PECs, students receive the support they need to succeed in their coursework and achieve their academic goals.

STUDENT & PARENT ENGAGEMENT

Your involvement is essential to the success of your elementary student. You and your student will work with the PEC as a team to learn course material and complete projects. The younger the student, the more involved a parent will be in their child’s daily educational activities. PECs will provide guidance, oversight, and support to both the student and parent as they navigate their course work and Personalized Education Plan (PEP). This plan is evaluated and adjusted as needed to ensure student success.
